Royal Doulton figurine is called 'Prudence' HN1883 by designer Arthur Leslie Harradine for a series called;
Period Figures in English History. Prudence was issued 1938-1949. No original
Designer Leslie Harradine was
born in 1887 and died in 1965. This well known designer of figurines began his early work in 1902 under Doulton Lambreth;
he eventually became a freelancer for Royal Doulton and became a famous premier designer for Royal Doulton
from about 1920 to the mid 1950's.
This series of porcelain figurines by Royal Doulton
pays homage to the great ladies who made important contributions to English History.
Prudence is considered the 'father' of all the virtues, meaning one who has self discipline by reason and practicality.
In our modern world today we would think of one who has intelligence, wisdom and free will to think wisely; that would be
a prudent person and I think this figurine conveys that virtue very well.
